Today we will explore Identity & Iconography in Unconventional Sports Narratives with Sean Weiner.

Sean's passion for both film and sports brought an interesting connection to the class. My favorite for the day was Sugar. The film directed me to reflect upon the struggles of the Dominican athletes. It was also difficult to observe players on a team feeling so alone. The "gaze" definitely guided me towards recognizing how Sugar left the comforts of his close community and faced difficulties when experiencing the language and culture of a new country.
